If you or someone in your household lose qualifying health coverage in the last 60 days or expects to miss it in the next 60 days, you may qualify for the (SEP) Special Enrollment Period to register or change health plans.

Coverage losses that will qualify

  • Loss of job-based coverage, such as through your company or a family member’s employer
  • Individual health insurance for a plan or policy that you purchased on your own, such as if your program is discontinued or you fail to be eligible for a student health plan
  • Loss of Medicaid or CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) coverage, like if your household income changes, making you ineligible for Medicaid, or your child ages out of CHIP standards.
  • Loss of Medicare eligibility, such as when you no longer qualify for premium-free Medicare (Part A)
  • Loss of coverage through a family member, such as when you reach the age of 26 and are no longer eligible for your parent’s plan

Not sure your health insurance loss counts? Please answer a few questions to confirm if you qualify.

Are you ready to apply during a Special Enrollment Period?

Be Mindful: If you are not eligible to apply during the Special Enrollment Period for the remainder of 2021, you can apply for a 2022 health plan from Monday, November 1 to Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
